Spider Spectacular
Exploding out of the inter stellar, post apocalyptic dreamscape of sizzling imagination comes the already legendary Spider. Whipping together the once disparate concepts of stage, sculpture, venue and launchpad into one awe inspiring organism, the Spider fuses the dazzlingly surreal with the astonishingly practical and locks artists and audience together into a mind blowing matrix of multi sensory wonder.
Originally built for Glastonbury 2010 both for a show in its own right, and as the main stage for the throbbing heart of the after hours area, Arcadia sent out a lightning bolt dripping with flames, passion, mystery and technological lunacy that set both the internal and the external night skies ablaze.
Blowing the lid clean off tens of thousands of thunderstruck people as the electric rush flowed through them, the Daily Telegraph remarked that 'It made U2's crab look like a paperweight' As the plaudits poured in, the critical fact remains that the Spider is only at the start of its development and the mind boggling kaleidoscope of possibilities within the concept is just beginning to weave its gleaming web.
Engineered almost entirely from recycled materials, mutation, metamorphosis and the sheer sexiness of scrap lie at the beating heart of the beast. You can't buy structures like this and if you could commission them to be newly built - well the magic would simply dissolve. Mixing a furious cocktail of abused technology and shaking it up with love and unity, the skeleton of the Spider synthesises together Customs and Excise scanning units, a handful of military helicopter fuselages, a jet engine, space satellite fuel pods, turbine blades, oil tanks and.....er....a water butt and some radio aerials.....
The Spider comes armed with a fully loaded, surround sound, six stack Amitotic 50 KW Funktion One sound system with endless effect possibilities, with a live stage fully able to accommodate the professional needs of a full band and a DJ booth 10 m up in the sky.

Arcadia is continuing the development of the structure and the show into 2011 and 2012. Mounting hydraulic cranes to the structure and integrating tesla effects will create a limitless spectrum of options. Be sure to see the exclusive show at Glastonbury this year where the Spider will take its performance into an eye popping, stomach churning, spine-shaking spark of pure experience...
