OUR ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

As an artistic company, we feel our role is to highlight creative innovation and spark debate both through the stories we tell and the mediums through which they are told.

For example, we developed the Metamorphosis show in conjunction with European Green capital to tell a metaphorical story of change through a stage built from re-purposed materials and featuring the world’s first biofuel pyrotechnic flame system. That show has reached nearly a million people and provoked significant debate.

We understand that touring any production has a footprint, and accepting an un-expected opportunity to tour The Spider to global demographics came with a degree of compromise. It has been rewarding to work in Asian countries and to see The Spider continue to inspire young people to consider waste differently. It has also been a great inspiration for us to explore universal connections that unite us all regardless of race. These experiences will have a profoundly positive impact on our future work.

Our new touring productions look to significantly reduce our requirements for flights and shipping containers, utilising local machinery and skills, while teaching local organisations to operate independently from our UK biased company. During the transition periods will are focusing The Spider tour route on localised European travel, city centre events (reducing the footprint of car travel) and more long term installations at destination centres such as The Eden Project. We are also in the process of creating a semi permanent structure at Glastonbury, with over 150 tonnes of recycled local machinery that we hope will not move off the farm for many years to come.

We do not claim to have all of the answers, but are asking questions through the shows we create and the methods we use to bring them to life. It is an ongoing process and every decision is weighed carefully to find the most effective compromise.

We encourage collaboration and invite anyone who have ideas on how we could be more effective to get in touch.
